For release 41 Spanish contest winners honored at King’s June 7, 2010 – More than 1,000 regional students recently competed in the National Spanish Examinations, sponsored by the Northeastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. The contest concluded with 41 chapter winners, ranging from elementary to high school students from public and private schools in the Wyoming Valley, Scranton, Poconos, Hazleton, and South Williamsport areas. King’s College hosted a dinner for area national and chapter Spanish contest winners and guests in the Sheehy-Farmer Campus Center. Mr. Alex Byczkowski, assistant professor of foreign languages at King’s, is director of the program, which began at King’s in 1970. Local chapter Spanish contest winners are: Lina Bader, Wyoming Seminary; Sarah Careyva, MMI Prep; Lauren Fernandez, Wyoming Seminary; Hannah Gabriel, Wyoming Seminary; Hannah Goyne, Wyoming Valley West; Kelsey Grossman, Wyoming Seminary; Gina Insalaco, Wyoming Seminary; Joe Kapolka, Wyoming Seminary; Amanda Lara, MMI Prep; Leah Levine, Wyoming Seminary; Michael Moorhead, Coughlin; Amelia Poplawski, Coughlin; Adithya Pugazhendhi, Wyoming Seminary; Farrah Qadri, MMI Prep; Brigid Smith, Wyoming Seminary; Emma Spath, Wyoming Seminary; Mary Thede, Wyoming Seminary; Maritza Vergara, Meyers; and Jamie Williams, Wyoming Seminary. Wyoming Seminary Lower School winners are: Sai Abhishek, Rebecca Barnes, Benjamin Hornung, Nathalie Joanlanne, Arian Kozlansky, Patrick Lehman, Emily Mackesy, Katherine Schraeder, Joseph John Simons, Lia Sminkey, and Madison Sweitzer.
