GNA Elementary Students Awarded Kids at King’s Scholarships Based on Essays

June 18, 2010 - Eight students of the Greater Nanticoke Area School District have been awarded scholarships to attend a Kids at King’s week-long class this summer at the College’s campus.

Funds for the scholarships were raised through dress-down days for district personnel during the just completed academic year.

Two students each from second, third, fourth, and fifth grades were awarded scholarships.  The awards were based on essays students wrote on which Kids at King’s class interested them the most and why.

The program was coordinated by Julie Perhacs, a counselor in the district, who became familiar with the Kids at King’s program when attending a meeting for counselors from area school districts held at the College.  The essay program was conducted through the district’s Camp for Kids Pro-Social Project.

The Ninth Annual Kids at King’s Program will offer more than 90 classes this summer for local students entering grades one through eight.  The program, in which classes meet Mondays through Fridays for two-and-a-half hours a day, is a component of the College Discovery Program at King’s.
