For Immediate Release Gateway Corners Recognized by Chamber of Commerce King’s has been selected the winner of a Pride of Place Award for the Gateway Corners building. The project was selected the winner of the New Construction category in a competition sponsored by the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce and Industry. It is the College’s second Pride of Place Award in the past three years. The Wellness Center addition to the Scandlon Physical Education Center won the Restoration/Renovation category in 2008. Father O’Hara will accept the award and key project participants will attend the June 16 awards luncheon.
King's College partnered with Kinship Square, a non-profit community development corporation, and Radnor Property Group to develop Gateway Corners, a four-story 95,000 square foot multi-purpose building adjacent to the College campus. King's, which is leasing the building from Radnor Property Group, is using the top three floors to house 165 students in apartment style suites. The first floor contains office space for the College's education faculty, state-of-the-art classrooms, a public day-care facility and a public eatery, Leo’s on Mane. The $20 million project was announced in May 2008. Gateway Corners replaced two blighted buildings, a former laundry/dry cleaning business and a printing business. Pictured above is a photo of the exterior of the completed Gateway Corners building.
Father Thomas J. O'Hara, C.S.C., president of King's, spoke at an announcement for the new Gateway project in May 2008. In the background are two blighted properties that were located across from the college campus. King's College is a Catholic College sponsored by the Congregation of Holy Cross. |
