For Immediate Release 40 local national and chapter French contest winners honored at King’s College May 21, 2010 – The National French Contest, sponsored by the Northeastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of French, concluded with 54 chapter and 25 national winners from a pool of 281 elementary to high school student entrants from public and private schools in the Wyoming Valley, Scranton, Pocono, Hazleton, and South Williamsport areas. Dr. Margaret Corgan, chairperson of the department of foreign languages at King’s, is president of the local chapter and director of the program, which began at King’s in 1969. In that time, more than 24,000 students have registered for the test at the College. Continuing a tradition that began in 1977, King’s College hosted a dinner for area national and chapter French contest winners and guests in the Sheehy-Farmer Campus Center. Sara Iris Ouellette, a senior at Wyoming Seminary, won the prestigious Langenscheidt Publishers Award for the student who participated the greatest number of times with the greatest success. Local national winners are: Holy Redeemer: Elsbeth Turcan; Wyoming Seminary Lower School: Ruhani Aulakh, Dominique Coslett, Gabrielle Coslett, Maxim Crispin, Naomi Dressler, Guy Edmunds, Richard Hughes, Alexandra Kilyanek, Christopher Kim, Michael Kim, Mary Lundin, Sujay Murthy, Vinay Murthy, Adam O'Brien, Stefan Olsen, Gabriel Pascal, Meera Patel, Madison Sweitzer, Mairead Tuttle, Dominic Wright, and Kira Zack; Wyoming Seminary: Sabine Schneider and Carly Sokach. National winners who also received chapter awards are: Aulakh, Dominique Coslett, Crispin, Dressler, Edmunds, Kilyanek, Christopher Kim, Michael Kim, Lundin, Sujay Murthy, Vinay Murthy, O'Brien, Olsen, Pascal, Patel, Schneider, Sokach, Sweitzer, Turcan, Tuttle, and Wright. Local chapter winners are: Kevin Cantoran, Coughlin; Louis Jablowski, Lauren Lockus, and Sarah Williams, Holy Redeemer; Charlotte Brecher, Wyoming Seminary Lower School; Emma Bertram, Hannah Dressler, Leah Goldberg, Jakub Husek, Kevin Kopec, Renata O’Donnell, Sarah Iris Ouellette, Olivia Smialek, and Megan Tindell, Wyoming Seminary; and, Joseph Dal Santo and Cassidy Zapusek, Wyoming Valley West Middle School.
