For release King’s professors publish critical thinking textbook May 14, 2010 – King’s College faculty members Dr. Greg Bassham, professor of philosophy; Dr. William Irwin, professor of philosophy, Dr. Henry Nardone, emeritus professor of philosophy; and Dr. James Wallace, professor of English, recently co-wrote the 4th edition of their textbook, titled “Critical Thinking: A Student’s Introduction,” published by McGraw-Hill. “Critical Thinking: A Student’s Introduction” is designed to help students bridge the gap between everyday culture and critical thinking. Using a proven step-by-step approach, this textbook covers the basics of critical thinking, in clear, reader-friendly language. Bassham has written numerous articles on popular culture and philosophy topics, including Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, and Sherlock Holmes. A professor at King’s since 1992, he has served as director of the Center for Ethics and Public Life and chair of the Philosophy Department. A professor at King’s since 1996, Irwin is series editor of “The Blackwell Philosophy and Pop Culture Series,” and the author of numerous articles on popular cultural topics. Nardone recently retired from teaching after more than 40 years at King’s. His publications include scholarly articles on critical thinking and aesthetics. Wallace is the author of “Parallel Lives: A Novel Way to Learn Thinking and Writing.” His essay, "A (Karl Not Groucho) Marxist in Springfield," appeared in “The Simpsons and Philosophy.” King's College is a Catholic College sponsored by the Congregation of Holy Cross. |
