For Immediate Release Dr. Michael Brannigan to present annual Divine Wisdom Lecture at King’s April 13, 2010 – Renowned medical ethics scholar Dr. Michael Brannigan will deliver the annual Rev. Donald J. Grimes, C.S.C., Divine Wisdom Lecture, titled, “Healthcare and the Dying Art of Presence: Healing and Culture,” at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 22, in the Burke Auditorium at King’s College. The Pfaff Endowed Chair in Ethics and Moral Values at The College of Saint Rose in Albany, N.Y., Dr. Brannigan’s lecture will cover topics ranging from “the virtue of presence” and its moral significance to how we may learn about the imperative of presence from other cultural perspectives. Dr. Brannigan was previously the vice president for clinical and organizational ethics at the Center for Practical Bioethics, in Kansas City, Mo., and founder and executive director of the Institute for Cross-Cultural Ethics at La Roche College. Brannigan’s specialties are in ethics, intercultural ethics, medical ethics, and Asian philosophy. He has written numerous articles and eight books, including “Healthcare Ethics in a Diverse Society,” and “Striking a Balance: a Primer on Traditional Asian Values.” Since 2006, the name of the Annual Divine Wisdom Lecture was changed to honor the late Rev. Donald J. Grimes, C.S.C., Professed Religious in the Congregation of Holy Cross. From his arrival at King’s College in 1972 until his death in 2005, Father Grimes served as a professor, counselor, administrator, and finally the vice president of academic affairs. The lecture is sponsored by the Honors Program at King’s College. The Burke Auditorium is located in King’s William G. McGowan School of Business, located on North River Street. Parking will be available on the on-campus lots.
