For Immediate Release Recycled Art Exhibit Begins April 16; Junk Band Concert April 6, 2010 - The Green Initiative at King’s College, the Cultural Council of Luzerne County and Arts YOUniverse will sponsor an “E-ART-h Day” recycled art exhibit from Friday, April 16, through Thursday, May 13, at several downtown locations. The opening of the exhibit will coincide with the Third Friday Art Walk in Wilkes-Barre, to be held from 5 – 8 p.m. Pieces in the exhibit will be displayed at Arts YOUniverse, 47 N. Franklin Street, and Art Seen Gallery, 21 Public Square. Area residents of all ages are welcome to submit pieces for the exhibit. Artwork can be either two- or three-dimensional. Recycled and/or organic materials must be a major part of the piece. Recycled is any material that has been “repurposed” from its original use. Organic materials are found in nature. Pieces must fit through a standard size doorway and weigh no more than 50 lbs. Deadline for submissions is April 14. Submissions will be accepted from noon to 4 p.m. from Saturday, April 10 through Wednesday, April 14, at Arts YOUniverse and Art Seen Gallery. The exhibit is being held in conjunction with Earth Day on April 22. A Junk Band Open Mic night will also be held on Friday, April 16, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Monarch Court on the King’s campus (rain location: Sheehy Farmer Campus Center). Participants can bring their own musical instrument made with recycled materials or can build one on site; conventional instruments are also welcome.
