COUNSELING CENTER

College is a time of academic, personal, and social growth, filled with challenges, change, decisions, confusion, and new experiences.  More freedoms bring more responsibilities, and the weight of this lifestyle shift can, at times, be overwhelming. That is normal. During these difficult periods, the Counseling Center is available as one of many support systems on campus, in the form of individual counseling, group sessions, and outreach programs to help you to know what to expect in college and how to find healthy ways to cope with all of the stresses that arise day-to-day.

The Counseling Center is staffed by Licensed mental health professionals, qualified to provide students with short-term, equitable, sensitive and confidential support. These counseling services are provided in a comfortable and private office environment on campus at no charge to the student. Upon consultation(s) with a student, should the professional counselor find that their specific counseling needs might be better served by an outside provider, the student will be referred to an appropriate professional practice in the surrounding area.

A student is encouraged to make an appointment to see an on campus professional counselor if he/she is experiencing difficulty in:

  • Making a smooth transition from high school to college
  • Clarifying individual personal or professional goals
  • Managing stress or dealing with anxiety
  • Dealing with loneliness or depression
  • Working to resolve relationship conflicts
  • Recognizing self-worth
  • Controlling food and/or substance intake

In addition to the Counseling Center, crisis intervention and emergency-response services are available from a variety of campus offices such as the Student Health Center, Campus Ministry, Residence Life, Student Affairs, or the Academic Skills Center.

Counseling Center Hours:

Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm

The Counseling Center is located in Room A620, 6th floor of the Administration Building.
Appointments can be made by calling (570) 208-5873; or Ext. 5873.

If a crisis occurs during other than regular office hours, please contact Security or the Switchboard (dial 0) and ask to speak to the counselor-on-call.
