STUDY ABROAD PROGRAM - STUDENT EXPERIENCES
Julie Edwards How did you select your Study/Intern Abroad location? I have always wanted to study abroad in Italy. Picking John Cabot University was easy because it is affiliated with King’s, and I had heard good things about the program from students who had previously studied there. Why did you want to study or intern abroad? I love traveling, so studying abroad seemed like a good way to visit places I have never been before. What were the highlights of this experience? I loved traveling all over Italy and also to Paris. The country is so beautiful, and it is something that you just have to see for yourself. The locals that I met were very friendly, and I enjoyed learning about their culture and practicing my Italian. What surprised you the most? I was very surprised at how different Italy is from the United States. The country shuts down in the afternoon for a siesta time, and then everything opens up again until very late at night. It was great to experience their culture, and I miss many aspects of it. How has (or how might) this experience affect your major and future career? I unfortunately did not take any classes in the healthcare field while in Italy; however I think that this experience has made me a more well-rounded person. I learned a lot about the Italian people and their culture, and I think this will be beneficial when I am dealing with people of different cultures in my future career as a healthcare professional. What would you tell students considering studying or interning abroad? You have to do it! It is such an amazing experience, and I wish that I had done it earlier in my college career because I would have definitely done it more than once. |
