STUDY ABROAD PROGRAM - STUDENT EXPERIENCES
Andrea Desmond How did you select your Study/Intern Abroad location? I decided to intern in Sydney because I had a friend who studied abroad in Australia, and she loved it there. I have also always wanted to go to Australia and thought this would be the perfect opportunity. Why did you want to study or intern abroad? I wanted to intern abroad because I have never been out of the country, and I have always wanted to travel. I thought this would be an interesting experience and look positive on my resume. What were the highlights of this experience? The highlights of my experience were SCUBA diving at the Great Barrier Reef and skydiving. These were two activities that I have always wanted to do, and I am glad I had the opportunity for these experiences. The country itself is just so beautiful, and I really just enjoyed traveling and seeing different parts of the country. What surprised you the most? I was surprised how similar their culture is to ours. They listen to a lot of our music and really love Americans. Getting accustomed to their culture was not as difficult as I thought it would be. How has (or how might) this experience affect your major and future career? This experience may affect my future career because it helps me understand how marketing is done internationally and how business works in a different country. I think this experience has definitely had a positive effect on my major and has broadened my experience and understanding of marketing. I really enjoyed my internship, and I could definitely see myself going back there in the future. What would you tell students considering studying or interning abroad? I would tell students to definitely consider going abroad because it is such a great experience. There are not many times that you get an opportunity to be in a country for a long period of time. It is a great opportunity to meet people and experience the culture. |
