Economics Certificate:

The proposed Economics Certificate consists of six (6) courses designed for the non-traditional student working or seeking employment in the financial services sector.  This certificate will provide the students with an understanding of the realities of the financial arena, while providing leadership skills, as well as customer skills. 

Courses and descriptions:

• Introduction to Computer Applications for Business (CIS 110) – This course is designed to help students achieve a basic proficiency in specific computer applications to include word processing, spreadsheets, database management, and multimedia presentations.  Topic also include the integration of these applications as well as the incorporation of resources available via the internet.
• The Principles of Economics: Macro (CORE 153) – Macro Economics:  The theory of national income, aggregate demand and the level of employment, money and banking, and government fiscal policy.
• Money, Banking and Financial Institutions (ECON 353)– The nature of money and monetary standards, commercial banking, the money market and financial institutions, central banking, monetary policy, and an in introduction to monetary theory.  This course will also examine the impact of inflation and regulation on financial institutions and markets. Pre-requisite: CORE 153.
• Quantitative Methods for Business and Economics (ECON 222) – An introduction to statistical and mathematical methods used in business fields and economics.  Topics include basic statistical concepts, sampling, probability, basic statistical distributions, estimation, hypothesis testing, and introduction to regression analysis.
• Organizational Analysis and Change (LGD 330) – This course is aimed to help students develop an understanding of today’s competitive, complex, and fast-paced global economy. It is imperative for organizations to analyze strategies and implement changes that will lend themselves to the achievement of organizational objectives and goals. In order to understand what leads to effective and lasting change, this course focuses on theory, skill development, and application and ultimately focuses on the process of analyzing the need for, and process of implementing, change in organizations.
• Internship In Economics (ECON 499) – An option to apply economic concepts learned from intermediate theory and economic courses.  Knowledge gained from the experience must be demonstrated by periodic reports to the faculty coordinator and through an appropriate project or paper.

OR

        Alternative Field of Study and Research Project (ECON 497) – Advanced project in a specialized area of Economics under the    supervision of an Economic faculty member.
